A Small Paradise In Mediterranean
Göcek is a small town in the Fethiye Bay, one of Turkey's most beautiful scenic areas for sailing and enjoying pure nature. Gocek recently became a well-known meeting point for yachtsmen and sea lovers. It has attained a justified fame due to its natural position. Gocek is an ideal place in view of wind conditions, sea and air temperatures. It is only 22 km away from the International Dalaman airport. Once arrived at the turquoise coast of Gocek you will soon forget the hectic of everyday life and totally relax.
Goceks islands and bays can be visited all year around. Especially during the summer months many tourists visit this region on different kind of boats, ranging from small fishing boats up to huge luxurious motor yachts. Whilst going on a cruise through the bays of Gocek you will enjoy the natural beauty and explore the many ancient sites at the most beautiful coastline of Turkey. Tourists have the choice to rent a private boat and plan their day(s) individually – “Blue Cruise” or go by charter boat, which has a capacity of more than 100 people. Either way you will experience a magical day out cruising through the stunning scenery and along the unspoilt islands in the blue gulf of Fethiye.
Gocek is the owner of 4 well-established marinas, which turned the small town into a privileged state. All marinas provide excellent berthing facilities and are equipped to a high standard. A fifth marina for big yachts is being built (summer 2008).
During ancient times Gocek was known as “Kalimche”. It is said that Icarus fell into the sea when he tried to fly away from where he was imprisoned.
During
ancient times Goceks name used to be “Kalimche”. Less than 20 years ago
Gocek was a tiny village, only known by local people. During the Ottoman
Era chromium was extracted in mines nearby and loaded onto ships in the
natural harbor. Gocek started to be known when a group of artists
cruised along the Turquoise coast, later to be called “Blue Voyage”.
Gocek developed in between the two Lycian civilizations Fethiye and
Caunos. Unfortunately only a few constructions from the ancient Kalimche
remained. Leftovers of rock tombs, monuments and ancient baths can be
found in the bays of Gocek and Goceks surroundings. Recommendable
historical places are Kayakoy, Dalyan and Fethiye.
Gocek developed into a well-known town due to its 4 marinas, which
provide excellent facilities to yachtsmen. A fifth marina for mega
yachts is being built as well as a second boat yard.
To protect the beauty and innocence of Gocek, it has become a Registered
Area of Special Protection. Strict building regulations have been put
into place in 1988, which do not allow multi-storey buildings. The
infrastructure is fully developed.
